Types of Swimming Pools and their Features

The type of pool that will suit you will depend on a number of aspects. There are two types of swimming pools for homes. Firstly there are aboveground pools and in-ground pools. In-ground pools are available in three main types which are concrete, vinyl and fiberglass. Each pool type offers specific features and the price range differs.


First we will discuss concrete pools which are normally custom built due to the fact that they are flexible when it comes to design aspects. One disadvantage of concrete that the construction time is very long which is from 8 to 13 weeks to complete. Fiberglass pools are normally purchase in one already made piece called a shell.

Fiberglass pools are quicker to install when compared to concrete pools. All that is required for fiberglass pools is for the hole to be dug and the shell will be secured. Vinyl pools also have a quick installation time as they are normally prefabricated in a range of shapes that are stretched over steel frames. If you are wanting to heat the pool or control the temperature there are several options available such as heating by solar power or the standard heating option. The color of the pool floor will have to be a dark color as this will attract the sunlight and warm up the water. Always consider building regulations and make sure building regulations are followed as they differ from country to country and city to city.

In the case of aboveground pools they are less expensive than in ground pools. There are two types of aboveground pools which are hard and soft-sided pools.  Hard sided pools are created using fiberglass and metals and this makes them a little more expensive – but they are more durable. As the name suggests soft sided pools are made from materials such as latex or rubber.

Aboveground pools are easily to install and this is appealing to most home or pool owners. Aboveground pools have pool liners which hold the water inside the pool.
